Matador Pool is the site of all home Cal
State Northridge
swimming and water polo events. Located on the
southeast corner of the kinesiology building, the outdoor
facility includes an eight-lane, 25-yard competition pool,
with a pair of one-meter and a pair of three-meter diving
boards attached at the east end. The facility also includes
a four-lane, 25-yard pool immediately west of the
competition pool for warm-ups and training. Both pools
are heated to a temperature of 80 degrees at all times.
Matador Pool has undergone major renovations in recent
years. In the summer of 1996, the plumbing and wiring
system was replaced and the warm-up pool was
lengthened from 20 yards to its current 25 yards. In
addition, a new deck and gutter system was installed as
well as an updated heating system which now ties into
the central heating unit of the university. Separate men's
and women's locker rooms connect Matador Pool to the
kinesiology building. Brand new locker rooms are in the
works for the two programs and are expected to be
completed in the near future. The facility also houses
offices for Cal State Northridge's swimming and diving
and water polo coaching staffs as well as an area for
training divers, complete with a trampoline and built-in
diving harness.
